Luke’s Account of Jesus Birth: Is it Historical?
According to Luke, Jesus was born when Caesar Augustus made a decree that all the world should be registered. In Palestine, this census was carried out by Quirinius, the governor of Syria. But some historians argue that Luke’s information is in direct conflict with other known historical facts. Though Quirinius did serve as governor, his rule appears to have been close to a decade later. So did Luke make a factual blunder, or can his timeline of events be corroborated from other sources? Shane Rosenthal, host of The Humble Skeptic podcast, will discuss this and other challenges related to Luke’s story of Jesus’ birth on Sunday, December 8th at Christ Presbyterian Church.
